I was checking my directing history in TD/A and saw that the MUIR events portion (spanning 19 events so far for me) does not include those where the only thing I did was submit it on-line. I did, however, see that all events I have submitted on-line in MUIR are also duplicated in the legacy events portion (spanning 704 events so far) but instead of being listed as submitted on-line they are listed as chief TD.
An example of one where I only submitted it is US Chess where I do not show up in the rating report at all (and should not show up until the submitting TD starts getting listed).
MUIR shows to Roslyn and Grove tournaments as chief TD submissions from the legacy system (along with duplicating in the legacy system some other tournaments where I was chief TD and submitted them on line).
It isn’t clear if you’re saying MUIR has all the data correct or not.
As to what’s being back-ported, that’s just a stopgap measure until we can get MUIR programmed to display TD history in a format that can be used for doing certification renewal.
So the question is, is this worth fixing on the legacy system which we are hoping to shut down later this year?
MUIR does not have the data correct for people whose sole function was to submit the event. It does not show my submission of three events where I only did pre- and post- tournament back end support without doing any TD work during the tournaments (which is why I did not list myself as an active TD). The MUIR pages for the tournaments do not show who submitted them and the MUIR to TD/A conversion is showing all submissions under MUIR to also be Chief TD entries in the legacy system for TD history. That ended up double-counting some of my chief TD history in tournaments I actually worked (two St Charles and one Du Page) and adding some chief TD experience when I wasn’t even on site or listed as a TD working the events (two Roslyn and one Grove).
Here is another TD that came in to submit a tournament (where I was chief tD) but not otherwise get TD credit and it shows that non-TD credit of submission actually listed as chief TD credit imported from MUIR to legacy TD/A.
I’m still not 100% clear what problem(s) there are to fix. Here are some variables that need to be mapped out before we know what needs to be fixed. Several of these require access to the legacy and/or MUIR database to compare what’s stored vs what should be stored.
Is the legacy data for events entered on the legacy system accurate?
Was the legacy data fully and correctly transferred to MUIR?
Is MUIR accurately displaying all the legacy data?
Is the data for events entered on MUIR accurate?
Is MUIR accurately displaying the data entered on it? (Not quite the same thing as #3 above.)
Was the data on MUIR fully and correctly back-ported to the legacy system?
Is the legacy system accurately showing the back-ported data?
Right now I don’t see this as a high priority project compared, to, say, getting all the norms-based titles working, getting the data sync problem fixed, and a few other items.
3 Yes. MUIR is displaying legacy data (I cannot remember if the legacy screen showed the submitting TD for the tournament report)
4. Yes. The data was entered into MUIR (but see number 5)
5 Mostly. MUIR does not show the submitting TD if the submitting TD did not work the event
6. Mostly. MUIR is doing a back-porting of the submitting TD as a chief TD in the legacy system. Tournaments I’ve worked that were submitted in MUIR are showing up correctly flagged in the MUIR portion of the TD/A display. Tournaments I’ve submitted (whether or not I was otherwise working them) are also back-ported as an additional entry in the legacy portion of TD/A. Some tournament IDs thus show up twice for the same date separated by other post-MUIR-cutover tournaments.
7 Mostly. If MUIR is back-porting submission data as submission data then the legacy system is incorrectly displaying it as Chief TD data in the pre-MUIR portion of the display as well as in the normal MUIR portion of the display with the correct attribution.
Here is my data with some highlighting. The tournaments listed as legacy tournaments from 11/01/2025-05/31/2026 were submitted in MUIR (I bolded those that I also worked) and are also shown as legacy tournaments with the same dates and listed as Chief TD rather than submitting TD.
Mike. . .When I list Club TDs by state for my state, I am shown to have directed in 3 tournaments, but it should be only 2. This confirms that the TD Experience Record shows me with 3 tournaments where 1 is a repeat tournament number with me being the Chief TD which is not true.
Here is Ken’s record. The February 2026 tournament shows up once normally in MUIR will all the correct credit (including submitting it) and again as a legacy import from February 2026 as Chief TD without anything about submitting it. In Ken’s case the submission first shows up with everything because he is otherwise in the tournament report, but if we only submitted it without doing anything else then it would only show up as a legacy import (from after when the legacy import process ended) and as Chief TD with no record of submitting it.
Moving up to Senior TD includes a requirement for having done the on-line submission for at least three events (four for moving up to ANTD and five for NTD). I know a number of TDs that met that requirement by doing only the submission of an event (in one case I emailed the tournament files to somebody in another time zone and walked them through the submission process, error checking/correction and validation). When that happens now we need to have some record proving that they submitted events for that required credit. For the time being that proof is the existence of post-MUIR-conversion entries that show up only as Chief TD credits imported from legacy on a date after legacy was no longer being used for imports.
