October 2025 FIDE tournament results (non-USCF) missing in MUIR system

For players who opt in, FIDE tournament results from events played outside the USCF normally appear in the USCF rating system with roughly a one‑month delay. However, when the new MUIR system launched in October 2025, all FIDE results were missing. The issue was only partially resolved: FIDE tournament results from November 2025 onward finally appeared in April 2026, but the October 2025 results—the first month of MUIR’s operation—never showed up. This strongly suggests a persistent bug in the processing pipeline that still has not been addressed.

These FIDE reports (from tournaments not submitted for US Chess rating) are dependent on the FIDE licensed arbiter getting the correct FIDE ID for the players. There was recently an issue with an arbiter selecting the wrong player from a list of similarly named players and then rating the tournament in FIDE using the FIDE ID of a US player that was not actually at the event.

If you end up being a person that happens to then you will need to contact the office about it so that it can get corrected in US Chess.

You should note there is no longer an “opt-in” for this process.

Per EB Motion 26-011

Effective January 1, 2026, US Chess will automatically update the US Chess ratings of all members with active memberships based on their performance in FIDE-rated events held outside US Chess jurisdiction. This change aims to improve the accuracy and consistency of player ratings.

Only players with an established US Chess regular rating are eligible for updates based on results from foreign FIDE events.

Following each new FIDE rating list, the US Chess office will identify all current members who:

  • Appear with a “USA” flag in the FIDE rating list, and
  • Have played at least one FIDE-rated game included in that list.

Additionally, the office may include other U.S. residents who are not marked with a USA flag if they are deemed eligible.

Starting with the January 1, 2026, update, all eligible players who have participated in FIDE-rated events will have their results automatically incorporated into their US Chess ratings. The previous opt-in/opt-out process is discontinued. The US Chess Executive Director must approve any exceptions.

For each identified player, all opponents and their FIDE ratings are recorded; opponents without a FIDE rating are excluded from the calculation. Opponent FIDE ratings are converted to the US Chess scale using the standard conversion outlined in Section 2.1.

I’ve alerted staff to the missing October FIDE adjustments. I know there was a data problem that delayed doing the November adjustments, maybe that impacted October as well.

The October 2025 FIDE adjustments were for events in September, the November 2025 FIDE adjustments were for events in October. My bad.

There are data issues with the November adjustments which is why they haven’t been posted yet.
